Love to Read Books, But Just Can’t Find the Time?
Library Launches Online Book Club
Finding a Great Book to Read Just Got Easier
So many books, so little time. For all you busy people out there, the Schertz Public Library has a new service: a group of Online Book Clubs that deliver books electronically. Each day, Monday through Friday, the library emails subscribers a portion of a book that takes about 5 minutes to read. By Friday, you will have read two or three chapters of a book. If you like it, you can check it out of the library or put it on reserve. Each book club features a new book each week.
With 11 book clubs to choose from, there's something for everyone. Patrons can read from the Fiction, Nonfiction, Romance, Business, Good News, Science Fiction, Horror, Teen or Mystery book clubs. They can also listen to Audio Books through a link in their email and there's even a Pre-Publication club. You can start reading books in your email before they're even published! Now you can discover great books, even if you're too busy to browse the library shelves.
You don’t even need a library card to sign up and start reading. Library Manager Melissa Uhlhorn says, "This new service makes it easy for people to get back into the habit of reading. It only takes 5 minutes a day, it's fun and the books are delivered to you right in your email at your home, work or even on your PDA." You will need a library card, though, if you want to check out the book. To obtain a library card, bring a photo ID and proof of current residence to the library and fill out an application. Children under 18 can also get a library card as long as they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with the required identification and proof of residence.
You can also forward the emails to your friends and family. Sharing and discussing books is a great way to foster a connection with friends and relatives who live in other parts of the country.
You can sign up for the service at the library’s web site: www.schertz.lib.tx.us.
