Laptops for In-House Use
Schertz Public Library offers laptop checkouts to give you more flexibility to work, study, and connect anywhere inside the building. Whether you need a quiet study space, a spot for a virtual meeting, or just prefer a portable option that allows you to move around the library, our laptops make it easy.
Visit the Circulation Desk with your library card and a government-issued photo ID. You’ll be asked to complete a Laptop Agreement Form, agreeing to our policy and to leave your photo ID at the desk for the duration of your checkout. Please read our Laptop Borrowing Policy and see eligibility requirements for full details.
When you check out a laptop, you’ll also receive a laptop bag for easy carrying within the library, along with a charger. These items must also be returned to the circulation desk when the checkout period is complete.
Laptops can be checked out for up to 4 hours. All laptops are due back to the circulation desk within 4 hours from checking out the laptop, or at least 30 minutes before the library closes, whichever comes first. Laptops may not be checked out within an hour of closing time.
Laptop time may be extended on a case-by-case basis. To request an extension, visit the Circulation Desk with your library card. Staff will check availability and confirm that no one is waiting before approving additional time.
To check out a laptop, you must:
- Be 18 years old or older
- Have a Full-Service Library card in good standing
- Have held your library card for at least 1 month
- Leave a government-issued photo ID (e.g. driver's license) at the desk during use
- Sign a Laptop User Agreement (first-time use, but may be requested again later)
Laptops can be used anywhere in the main library building (study rooms, meetings rooms, main side of the library, children's side of the library). They cannot be taken into the following areas:
- Foyer
- Restroom
- Courtyard
If a borrower needs to enter these restricted areas, the laptop may be held at the circulation desk after alerting a staff member, but the checkout limit still applies.
- Model: Dell Latitude 3550
- Built-in webcam and microphone
- Wi-Fi access
- Printing to the Print Release Station (normal printing fees apply)
- Software:
- Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook
- Adobe Acrobat (free version)
- Internet browsers: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox
It's important to note that all files and settings are deleted after each session ends. A session ends when the timer ends, or when the laptop is logged out, turned off, or restarted. Please use the laptop charger included in the checkout to ensure the laptop does not lose battery during your session.
The library does not offer flash drives. Users must bring their own flash drive, or have a way to save their work on their personal cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.)
The library is not responsible for the loss of any unsaved work.
All laptop borrowers must follow library policies:
Any violations to library policies may result in loss of laptop privileges.
